At the end of August, beginning of September 1944, the forest to the west of Grandrupt-de-Bains hid 367 men who formed the Maquis of Grandrupt. Their story was a terrible one since 120 of them died, either killed in combat or disappeared in the Nazi camps.

The trail "Dans les pas des Maquisards de Grandrupt" winds its way through the places where these patriots lived, trained and fought. Over 4 kilometres, on foot, by mountain bike or partially by vehicle, you can discover the history of the Maquis on information panels, enjoy the remarkable forest of La Vôge or have a picnic on one of the 3 shaded areas along the route.
You can also extend your walk by taking the "La Pille" circuit, a marked route, which will take you to the source of the Saône at Vioménil and then back to the Maquis trail. It covers a dozen kilometres.
In addition, after a trip by car, you can reach Hennezel and its Museum of the Resistance, of Iron, of Glass and of Forest activities in the Vôge. The visit to the Resistance hall is free of charge. However, it would be a pity not to visit the whole museum to remember the many activities of the Darney forest.
Free access at all times, marking in place. Guided and commented walk on request.
