Road cycling is one of the disciplines that is closest to track cycling or cyclocrossing. It differs from moutain biking in terms of equipment and circuits and from cycle touring, which favours the leisure and tourism aspects. This sport is aimed at both professionals and amateurs.
Road cycling aims at travelling medium or long distance routes without interruption and on roads that take the cyclists' safety into account. Generally, this discipline is based first and foremost on physical condition and effort. Stamina and tactics are the key elements to master in this sport. The distances are chosen with a precise number of kilometres according to the skills of the individual; the elevation gain is also part of the selection criterion.
The Vosges have the advantage of offering a variety of gentle and steeper slopes. The mountain passes, which can go up to 1,171 metres of altitude, are appreciated by the toughest cyclists. Our cycle maps offer 12 circuits which can meet everyone's expectations. The 37-kilometre circuit of Bouzey is aimed at amateurs who can travel in a rural environment, while the bravest ones can take the circuit n°8b in the direction of Gérardmer - Col de la Schlucht to conquer a pass with 2,050 metres of elevation gain.
For several years, the Vosges County Council has been developing actions promoting the good practice of this sport. On this website, you will find more information on all the disciplines associated with this sport and leisure cycling throughout the area. The Champions of the area have also tested and commented on a good part of the circuits offered to give us their professional advice.
So, do not hesitate to consult our favourites circuits and get on your bike to explore the landscapes of the Vosges !
