Inaugurated in 2009, the Bibliothèque Multimédia Intercommunale (BMI) in Épinal is a real temple dedicated to culture in many its forms. Its document collection is on all types of supports and has about 120,000 items.
Once the threshold of the door has been crossed, your eyes will inevitably be drawn to your left, where you can admire the woodwork that once was in the library of the abbey – Vosgiennne de Moyenmoutier. It has been on the list of Place of Historic Interest since 1994. Inside the BMI you can discover the heritage which is housed here such as the 27,000 ancient books, 244 manuscripts from the Middle Ages to the present day, 91 incunabula and more than 5,000 old postcards. The woodwork room can be visited on request on Wednesdays and Saturdays afternoons between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Simply contact the librarians in the heritage consultation room.
Heritage workshops are offered to children during school holidays. They can have the opportunity to discover many treasures and then practice the delicate techniques of binding, illumination or calligraphy.
The BMI offers many services, do not hesitate to go there to discover them all!
